Blog post 1

Welcome to my blog:)

I am a 36 year old mother of three, born and raised here in beautiful Mobile, Al. I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart and we will be celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary March 3, 2012. I am an Elementary/Special Ed major at the University of South Alabama, Go Jags!!!, and my passion is proving to myself that I am capable of anything I put an effort into. You see, growing up I had very little interest in school and couldn't wait to get out. Now that I'm an adult I see that if you want to survive in the work force you have to have something to offer in return.  I was blessed to be able to stay home with my children for ten years and when my youngest was four I began substituting, that's when I fell in love with the idea of becoming a teacher.
I am totally new to the world of blogging and honestly I'm very intimidated by this EDM310 class right now. I am so used to the "burp back" method that this class is terrifying for me. But I firmly believe that today's educators should be familiar with technology and all the benefits it has to offer. I am excited about all I will be learning this semester.
When I am not studying, I spend time with my family. Keeping my children active is important to me and teaching them that to succeed you have to apply effort! I plan to carry this ideal with me into the classroom by example and patience, lots and lots of patience.

          TIME MANAGEMENT VIDEO

A brief video of a Randy Pausch lecture on editing our daily to-do list makes many great suggestions. So many of us go though our daily routine of following a strict time schedule in order to get everything done that needs to be accomplished each day. Pausch recommends taking a second look at our routines to help reduce stress levels that are very high in American's lives today. He stresses "Ask why am I doing this?? What will happen if I don't do this today?"  This is great advice since time is irreplaceable and we have to use it to the greatest potential. The lecture clip on u-tube is very entertaining. I especially enjoyed his comment on eating frogs!

  1. Burp-back education is what terrifies me!

Your picture must be a head shot of you - alone.

I love frog legs. But whole frogs? I don't think so. A lot like burp-back!

  2. Hello, Erica! My name is Eva and I'm also an Elementary/Special Ed major! I'm also very intimidated by this class, but I think we'll make it out okay : ). I like what you said about offering something in return to the work force in order to survive. The thought never occurred to me but I understand it. I would love to hear more about your family and maybe you could give me a few tips about parenting!
